Cold and Flu Season is Here - Replace Your Toothbrush!
Fall is upon us, and with it comes the dreaded cold and flu season. After recovering from your cold, Dr. Low will tell you one of the most important steps you can take to avoid becoming reinfected is replacing your toothbrush!
Germs are known to linger on the bristles, and you risk prolonging your sickness by continuing to use the same toothbrush. Be smart - keep a spare, just in case! To protect your toothbrush from bacteria all year long, consider the following tips:
• Wash your hands before and after brushing
• Allow the brush to air dry after each use, harmful bacteria dies after being exposed to oxygen
• Store the toothbrush in an upright position to allow water to drain and dry faster
• Replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months. Worn bristles are less effective in properly cleaning your teeth, and can actually be damaging to teeth if used too long!
We hope these tips help! Feel free to call us at Icon Orthodontics if you have any questions or ask us on Facebook.

Meet Our Orthodontist
Born and raised in Alberta, Dr. Corey Low graduated from the University of Alberta in Edmonton with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery with Distinction in 1994. Concurrent with his dental undergraduate studies, Dr. Low was also able to complete a Bachelor of Science Degree with Distinction, awarded in 1992. Dr. Low then practiced General Dentistry in Edmonton and served as a Clinical Instructor in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Alberta for the next 3 and a half years. During a Student Internship in the Orthodontic Graduate Clinic, Dr. Low discovered his passion for Orthodontics. Following that dream, Dr. Low returned to the University of Alberta in 1997 to complete postgraduate training in Orthodontics.
Dr. Low successfully completed the Fellowship Examination in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in June of 1999. In November of that same year Dr. Low defended his masters' thesis, followed by the completion of all clinical requirements in December. These accomplishments certified Dr. Low as a Specialist in Orthodontics and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.
After graduation, Dr. Low and his wife relocated to Calgary to be closer to the beautiful Rocky Mountains and the Chinook winds. He established a Mayfair Place Icon Orthodontics clinic in May of 2000 and then acquired a Strathcona clinic in June of 2001. In April, 2004 Dr. Low consolidated his practice to one clinic at the Strathcona Square Shopping Centre. Dr. Low celebrated 10 years of orthodontic excellence in 2010 and is the longest serving orthodontist in West Calgary.
Dr. Low lectures internationally to Orthodontic Residents on Practice Management, Technology and Three-Dimensional Imaging. His practice systems and technologies are renowned within North America, where he is known as an innovative practitioner with exceptionally high standards for his office and his staff. Dr. Low is always looking for ways to improve service and outcomes for his patients.
Dr. Low is a Preferred Provider of Invisalign and more recently has arranged for the provision of SureSmile at Icon Orthodontics. Dr. Low was the first Orthodontist in Alberta to acquire a three-dimensional imaging unit, which allows for more precise diagnosis while keeping radiation at a minimum. His experience and expertise at reading and diagnosing from three-dimensional images is well-known. Dr. Low is also a Premier Provider of Incognito braces, which are placed behind the teeth, allowing for totally hidden braces.
Away from the office, Dr. Low spends a lot of family time with wife, Shannon and three daughters, Sydney, Sophie and Sabryna. In the summer months Dr. Low finds time to play a few rounds of golf and to enjoy a hike in the Rocky Mountains. The rest of the year finds him circuit training in his gym and practicing his newest hobby, Hap Ki Do. Did you know that Dr. Low is an accomplished juggler? He chooses not to showcase that talent at the office!
