The assisting staff of Icon Orthodontics attended an Incognito course held in Las Vegas back in October.
While they were there, they participated in a “Ligature Tie” contest with a $5000 grand prize. A ligature is the elastic that is used to attach the archwire to the bracket of your braces. The assistant that could complete a ligature on the challenging braces that were provided in the shortest amount of time, would be the winner.
We are proud to say that our very own Icon Orthodontics assistant, Jazmine, competed against 200 other assistants from around North America and finished 2nd Place!
Make sure to ask Jazmine about her contest experience next time you visit our office. Give us a call to schedule your next appointment.

Kevin's Ride for Cancer
Kevin Pasenau, husband of former Icon Orthodontics employee Stephanie, participated in the Cancervive Challenge in Austin Texas back in November 2010. Kevin was diagnosed with cancer in 2006, completed his treatment, and now is on the road to recovery. Kevin would like to thank everyone for their donations and support for this worthy cause.
“It’s been a long journey since I first attended the 5km walk in 2007, and of the hundreds of participants, I was one of the last to finish. Fast forward 3 years and the 5km walk was a breeze and I managed to finish the 45 mile ride on a rented mountain bike in 35 degree heat!”
“Your support means a lot and it’s greatly appreciated by me, and everyone at www.cancervive.ca and www.wellspringcalgary.ca. Both organizations were an integral part of my recovery and they run entirely on donations raised in Calgary.”
Thanks again!
-Kevin

Celebrating Ten Years of Orthodontic Excellence at Icon Orthodontics
Dr. Corey Low, your Calgary AB orthodontist, reached a milestone last year celebrating 10 years of Orthodontic excellence. Did you know that Dr. Low practiced as general dentist for three years? It was in May of 2000, that Dr. Low became an orthodontist and started Icon Orthodontics. Icon Orthodontics first started as a small practice in Mayfair place with only one staff member. After growing over the years, Dr. Low made monthly visits to see patients in Strathmore and then eventually moved Icon Orthodontics to our to a larger location where we reside currently in the Strathcona Square Healthcare Centre.
Dr. Low sends out a special thank you to his patients, referring dentists, staff members, and family for their continued support over the past 10 years which have made Icon Orthodontics a success.
To celebrate this event, we will be drawing one patient per month until May 2011 to receive a $100 gift card to various shops and places. Good luck!

Ask Dr. Low : What can Invisalign® do for my oral health?
When considering treatment options, patients often ask us how Invisalign treatment is so different than traditional braces. Well, there are more reasons to smile about Invisalign with Icon Orthodontics than you may know. Invisalign is a series of removable aligners that are nearly invisible, and besides straightening your teeth, can improve your oral health. Here’s how:
Healthy gums: Straight teeth allow a close fit for gums. This lessens the gum stress that is caused by crowded or widely spaced teeth, thus also reducing red and swollen gums.
Easy cleaning: Invisalign is removable, therefore brushing and flossing is easier and you are able to maintain a healthy mouth. These habits are vital to avoiding tooth decay, plaque and even gum disease.
Improved speech and chewing: Properly-aligned teeth don’t have the discomfort or compound speech impediments that can be caused by crowded teeth or a deteriorating jawbone.
If you have any questions about Invisalign, just ask Dr. Low the next time you’re in for an appointment. Or, you may post your question on our Facebook page! You can also read this article for more information on Invisalign and your oral health.

Ask Dr. Low : Why is it so important to have Straight Teeth?
Some people wonder why Calgary orthodontist Dr. Corey J. Low and our team work tirelessly to give our patients straight teeth. Of course it’s nice to have a smile full of evenly-aligned teeth, but did you know that straightening your teeth at Icon Orthodontics can keep them healthier? Straight teeth lead to better oral hygiene, increasing your chances of keeping your own natural teeth for a lifetime!
Straight teeth are less prone to decay, because they collect less plaque—the sticky colorless substance that forms on our teeth and leads to tooth decay; and they are easier to keep clean!
If you’re wondering whether your teeth might cause problems because they are out of alignment, please give us a call to set up a consultation. Dr. Low can help you decide whether or not you will benefit from orthodontic treatment.
